How Does Nplate ® Work?
Nplate® is a man-made protein medicine used to treat low blood platelet counts in adults with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), when other medicine to treat your ITP is not the best choice for you or surgery to remove the spleen has not worked well enough. Nplate® is used to try to keep your platelet count about 50,000 per microliter in order to lower the risk for bleeding. Nplate® is not used to make your platelet count normal.1
Nplate® treats low platelet counts in a different way. Unlike other available therapies which primarily focus on reducing the destruction of platelets, Nplate® actually increases the production of platelets.1-6

Nplate® works on the part of your body that makes blood cells, called the bone marrow. When Nplate® is given, the bone marrow produces more platelets, which may help reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding. A goal of treatment with Nplate® is to keep your platelet count greater than or equal to 50,000 per microliter of blood. This goal is a level that helps reduce the risk of bleeding events. Achieving a normal platelet count is not necessary to reduce the risk of bleeding events.1-6. Talk with your healthcare provider about the treatment goals that are best for you.
Nplate® is used to treat low blood platelet counts in adult patients with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Nplate® is the first FDA-approved peptibody protein. Nplate® is prescribed when other medicine to treat ITP is not the best choice for you or a splenectomy has not worked well enough.1 To find out if Nplate® is right for you, talk to your doctor or sign up for more information.
