Nplate ® Represents a Different Way to Treat ITP1
Nplate® is not like medications or therapies that suppress the immune system. Just like your body's own thrombopoeitin, or TPO, Nplate® works on cells in the bone marrow—the part of your body that makes blood cells. When Nplate® is given, the bone marrow produces more platelets, which may help reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding.1-3
Once-weekly Nplate® is given by a healthcare provider as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous) (sub-q-tain-ee-us). Nplate® cannot be self-administered.1
In short, ITP not only destroys platelets, but also makes producing new platelets more difficult. This is why helping to increase platelet production, the way that Nplate® does, makes sense for treating ITP.4-8
No known drug interactions
No formal drug interaction studies have been performed. When discussing treatment approaches, it also may be important to know if you can be on certain ITP treatments and continue to take any nutritional supplements or other medications you're taking. Different treatments for ITP have different benefits and risks. You should discuss all available options with your healthcare provider.
